After researching my own family since 1993, I decided in 2019 to pursue turning that love into a profession. I started with the Boston University Genealogy Certificate program in the summer of 2020 and was opened up to a whole new world of genealogy. My work and life experience, as well as my education have given me the chance to see the business side of genealogy from multiple perspectives. I went on to ProGen and GenProof, along with institute courses from SLIG, GRIP, IGHR, and AppGen.
My education with the law and my work as a criminal paralegal has given me the skills to navigate the many legal turns genealogy can take. My love for the law and true crime sparked my podcast, The Criminal Genealogist, my fun side project when I am not working. My goal is to create the "go to" resource guide for those researching their criminal ancestors. If you have a need for a speaker on this topic, I can be reached at Thecriminalgenealogist@gmail.com. Or if you need help researching your criminal ancestor - feel free to contact me.
My business, My Genealogy Roots, focuses on working with attorney's on probate cases finding living legal heirs, primarily in Oklahoma. I also focus on family research in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Canada and England. Need to hire a genealogist for your probate case or family research? You can reach out to me at Michelle@mygenealogyroots.com.
After years volunteering for SLIG and Tulsa Genealogical Society, I have now added helping with the 1921 Graves Investigation in Tulsa, OK which is tied to the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. It's an honor to put my research skills and knowledge to help with an important project. In 2024, I was a researcher on a new show, Relative Secrets (BBC America) which aired in June 2025.
