I have had a life-long love of history, particularly family history. In 1968 I began researching my family as a hobby. By mid 1990, I was hooked and moved my research from hand-written pages to computers, genealogy software, and the Internet. Though my college degree was not in history or library sciences, my Bachelor of Science in nursing taught me a lot about research, report writing, and documentation.

However, in 2000, I realized the need for education in genealogy--its specific principles and methods. I joined local and national genealogy organizations, read their magazines/journals, attended their workshops/seminars, read recommended genealogy texts. Since then, I have earned 12certificates from the Institute in Genealogy and Historical Research, including Advanced Methodology and Evidence Evaluation. In 2015, I completed Boston University’s Genealogy Essentials course and earned the certificate for their 15-week Genealogy Research course. In 2016, I attended the Genealogy Institute on Federal Records. I completed Gen-Proof 46 in 2016 and Pro-Gen 32 in 2018. Since then, I attended SLIG 2019, SLIG Virtual 2019, GRIP 2020, 2021, 2022 and GRIP-NGS 2024. I participated in a Gen-Doc Study Group, a NGSQ Study Group, a SIG Writing Group, the Certification Discussion Group, and RootsTech 2021-2025. Since 2000 every year, I take part in numerous professionally produced genealogy-related webinars. I am currently enrolled in IGHR 2025—Genetic Genealogy for Genealogists, IGHR 2025—Repository Research:From Website to Doorway, and EE4 Study Group with Cyndi Ingle.

I have researched at numerous county courthouses, and libraries in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Kentucky. At the state level, I have researched in the Archives of TN, MS, AL, and GA as well as the Nashville Metro Archives, and several university genealogy collections. Nationally, I have researched at the National Archives I and II, the Regional Archives in Atlanta, the Library of Congress, and the DAR Library. In addition, I have researched in several local Family History Centers and at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.

I belong to the Tennessee Genealogical Society, National Genealogical Society, Georgia Genealogical Society, and the Association of Professional Genealogists. In 2014, I founded Research, Etc. and began accepting clients. Genealogy is my love and passion.

In 2024, I began a new pursuit—archives. I was honored to be appointed to the Haywood County Public Records Commission(PRC) and in 2025 was elected the chairperson. The PRC is tasked by the state with preserving, protecting, and making available for public viewing the permanent county records. Many of the Haywood County permanent records have been in non-climate- controlled storage at various locations since the mid 1970s. The PRC discovered that a county archives had never been officially established by the County Commission. In September 2024, the PRC successfully presented a Resolution Establishing the Haywood County Archives. In 2025, the PRC invited a team from TSLA to visit our archives and make recommendations as to how best to proceed with bringing the archive up to state standards. I and other members of the PRC have visited the surrounding archives of Madison, Hardeman, Fayette, and Dyer Counties to gain knowledge of their archival journeys, their physical setup, their methods of processing records, etc. I have had numerous phone conversations with the archivists of Fayette, Madsion, Dyer, and Houston Counties regarding their archival funding, budget development, and relationship of the PRC and the archives. There is indeed much work to be done at the Haywood County Archives.
