Transition to Genealogy and Historical Research

After retiring from a professional career as a librarian in Texas, I am now focusing on continuing work in family genealogy and historical research. This next chapter allows me to draw on my background in information management and research, applying those skills to the detailed study of family histories and the exploration of regional historical narratives.

Professional Background

With more than 30 years of dedicated research experience, I have developed a strong foundation in genealogical and historical studies. My skills centers on south Texas region and northern Mexico research, as well as the exploration of local histories. This extensive background allows me to provide deep insights into the unique challenges and discoveries associated with Hispanic genealogy and regional history.

Personal Inspiration for Genealogical Research

Family history and stories play a significant role in shaping our sense of identity. By listening to the experiences and memories shared by my parents, grandparents, and other relatives, I developed a strong interest in genealogy and local history. These personal narratives not only deepened my curiosity about our roots but also inspired my dedication to local history and the exploration of mysteries within our community.

 Professional Affiliations and Presentations

I am an active member of several professional organizations dedicated to genealogy and historical research. My affiliations include the Association of Professional Genealogists, Texas State Genealogical Society, Hidalgo County Historical Commission, Spanish American Genealogical Association, and Las Villas del Norte Genealogy Group. Through these memberships, I have engaged with a broad network of professionals and enthusiasts in the field.

In addition, I have delivered presentations at local organizations and state conferences. My presentation topics have included beginners’ genealogy, Hispanic research and methodology, cemetery research, and local history. These opportunities have allowed me to share knowledge and techniques with a diverse audience and contribute to the ongoing development of genealogical and historical studies.
