On 2 July 2026, APG submitted a letter of support to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), supporting a proposed amendment to Articles 205 and 207 of the New York City Health Code, with a request for further access and improvements.  "APG supports the proposal’s targeted improvements to access for individuals, parents, adult adoptees, and direct-line descendants," said APG President Tricia Seguine in the letter. "They do not, however, address the City’s broader restrictions on access to historical birth and death records, documents which are of incredible importance to our organization’s members and the public at large. APG urges the Board to adopt the proposed access improvements and direct the Department to undertake a separate, comprehensive rulemaking on historical vital record access."
