APG Names Two Winners of the 2025 APG New Professional Scholarship

The Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) is pleased to announce Kendra Gaede of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and Laurel Haas of Charlestown, Rhode Island, USA, as the winners of APG’s 2025 New Professional Scholarship.

The APG New Professional Scholarship was established in 2008 to recognize and support new professionals who have a strong interest in developing a career in the genealogical field. To be considered, an applicant must have five years or less of professional service in the field. Both scholarship winners receive complimentary registration to APG’s Virtual Professional Management Conference, to be held 18–20 September 2025.

Kendra Gaede is a professional genealogist, writer, and former journalist with a research specialty in Western Canadian genealogy. She has Professional Learning Certificates Genealogical Studies (PLCGS) in Methodology and English Records from the International Institute of Genealogical Studies. A graduate of the University of Regina, she is the current chair of the Manitoba Genealogical Society’s Research Committee and is a contract genealogist with AncestryProGenealogists®.



Laurel Haas passed the ICAPGen Four Generation project for accreditation and looks forward to achieving full AG® accreditation soon. Her specialty research is in the Upper South region of the United States, including Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. She is currently providing contracted research services for Family Locket, with a focus on the Southern United States. She holds an MBA from Walden University.
