In addition to the most commonly used records such as census, church, probate, and immigration records, Lene Dræby Kottal has extensive experience with using the following records:
- Military records, including military levying rolls and muster records, which are not only useful for revealing the military endeavors of your male ancestors, but are also useful for determining birthplaces of persons who emigrated from Denmark and of persons who moved within Denmark.
- Land and real property records, including maps. In many cases, it is possible to determine today's address of a place where an ancestor lived and whether the house or farm still exists.
- Local government records, including paternity suits.
- Estate records, including tax, tenancy, and land records which can help identify ancestors even beyond the 1700s.
- Records from the Danish Chancellery (Danske Kancelli) which include appointments of officials and pleas to the King from inhabitants all over Denmark.
- Records from the Holmen military shipyard which employed many inhabitants of Copenhagen.
