New Professional Scholarship

  1. Purpose. To recognize and support a new professional who has a strong interest in developing a career in the genealogical field.
  1. Frequency. Annually, but does not need to be awarded every year.
  1. Eligibility. To be considered, an applicant must have 5 years or less of professional service in the field. Entries are limited to one per person, and the online form must be completed by 5 pm Eastern on 15 June of the year in which the award is to be given. The scholarship is non-transferable.
  1. Criteria. Application will contain the following: name, address, main contact phone number, email address, list of volunteer activities, any genealogical groups or societies to which the applicant belongs, and short answers to the following (no more than 500 words per question):

 a) How have you educated yourself to prepare for a career in genealogy? (e.g., self-study, institute courses, college, etc.)

 b) How do you see yourself involved in genealogy over the next five years?

 c) How do you imagine you will use the information from the APG Conference in your career?

    5. Award recipient evaluation is based on the following elements:

 a) Following instructions (keeping answers within word count limits)

 b) Volunteer activities (organizations, activities, etc.); and

 c) Answers to essay questions a through c.

  1. Selection. The application form for the award is available on the APG website. The award recommendation will be made by the Awards Committee with the approval of the Executive Committee. All decisions of the judges are final. The award consists of:

a) one registration for the APG Conference which must be used within two years of award notification; and

b) reimbursement of up to $500 for hotel and travel expenses (following US IRS guidelines for nonprofits) when attending the APG Conference in person, when required receipts are provided..

  1. Presentation. Presented during the APG Conference. Recipient is notified in advance to encourage their attendance either in person or online if the conference is virtual.
