For my Austrian and Prussian ancestors I learned to read Kurrent script. I completed a BA degree in German to understand grammar, word order, and an accidental death by fruit tree. My studies included a summer course in Bavaria, followed by a week in the Bregenzerwald region of Vorarlberg, Austria.
Since 2018, living in Salt Lake City, I provide document images for remote researchers from the FamilySearch Library—books, microfilm and microfiche, and limited-access digital collections. Knowledge of Spanish as my second language and German grammar extends to records in French, Italian, and Latin.
