I'm a genealogist with over 35 years of experience. I specialize in Central New York State (CNY) research along with Irish family research. I hold a Bachelor's degree in History from Syracuse University and I am well versed at working with documents from all periods. My company is CNY Genealogy and I am based near Syracuse, NY. My website is: www.cnygenealogy.com

Whether you're just getting started, hit a brick wall, need a fresh set of eyes, or have a special project in mind, I offer diligent, thorough, and accurate research with clear, professional deliverables.

If you are a genealogist and need "boots on the ground", I am available to visit and research at local historical societies, local churches and county records retention centers as well as local county historian's offices.  Additionally, I will also do cemetery photography, if requested.

If you are someone that just wants to know "where they came from", I can help! There’s something incredibly meaningful about bringing those forgotten stories back to life. Not only will I do the research to uncover your family roots, but I can produce numerous charts and reports for you, such as pedigree charts, family group sheets and descendant reports. Additionally, if you are local to CNY, and would like a face-to-face meeting, I would be happy to do that.

And for those that have done their own research on Ancestry.com but have hit a brick wall, or want to create a meaningful family history gift for their family,  I can help you too! I specialize in 19th and 20th century historical newspaper searches for New York State, so I may be able to find that elusive obituary you are looking for.

I have also published dozens of hard copy family history books for clients. So, if your family history is "done" (is it ever REALLY done?!) and you now want to give a meaningful gift to your family, but need help publishing your hard work, I can help!

While I can't guarantee every search will succeed, I provide detailed reports, document copies and guidance for further exploration if needed.

Why is it important to use a local researcher? A genealogist from California or Scandinavia might be able to search for records on Ancestry.com but it takes a local who knows the area to uncover brick walls. I had a client who had been looking for his birth grandmother for years. He had his father's adoption birth certificate that listed his grandmother's name and birth location (Amber, NY) but couldn't find the woman anywhere including on any census. It turns out that his grandmother used her middle name for the birth certificate, her parents were divorced and she was found living in Syracuse under her first name, and her birth father was still living in Amber, NY but that's a small hamlet outside of Marcellus, NY that wasn't used for the census. So any search for Amber, NY on the census came up empty. Not only did I find his birth grandmother, but I also found her throughout the years using her married name. I eventually found her obituary and called the funeral home to find out where she was buried, only to find out that the funeral home had been storing her ashes for the past 30 years because no family member ever claimed them. I was able to reunite this man with the ashes of his birth grandmother, whom his father never knew.
