I was a reference archivist and later the Reference Coordinator at the State Archives of Florida from 1998 to 2018. I was responsible for coordinating the day to day and long term activities of the Reference unit, but the majority of my time was spent providing professional assistance to Archives researchers, whether in-person or via email, letter or telephone. I was also on occasion called upon to provide presentations, workshops and tours to organizations and other potential Archives users and to create user guides, blog posts, and web content for Florida Memory (floridamemory.com).

The major categories of researchers I assisted were historians or scholars, genealogists, and legislative bill history researchers, though I have developed a broad familiarity with a number of aspects of Florida history and current topics of interest as represented in the Archives' collections. I am very familiar with genealogical research techniques and resources in general and I was pleased to assist researchers with knotty problems. Over the course of my work at the Archives I learned a great amount about the legislative process in Florida and how to find sources of information on legislation, court records, and agency records and publications.

Since retiring from public service, I have provided professional genealogical research to clients, including those seeking help with DNA mysteries and unknown parentage. I am also able to perform research and document retrieval at local repositories, especially the State Archives of Florida.
