Mike Quackenbush is an experienced genealogist with over 15 years of research in mixed mediums of both online and offline archives and repositories. With first-hand experience, Mike is knowledgeable in using numerous record collections in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, as well as England, Wales, and Scotland. Mike is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), and past-member of the International Society for British Genealogy and Family History (ISB), the Genealogical Speakers Guild (GSG), the Family History Information Standards Organisation (FHSIO), as well as the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) where has previously served on the Board of Directors, leading the Marketing portfolio. Mike is also the past-host of the OGS Webinar Series. Encouraging young people to develop an interest in family and social history is important to Mike. It goes without question then, that Mike was part of the Leadership Team of California-based The NextGen Genealogy Network, an organization which fosters support and networking opportunities between young genealogists. In the world of genetic genealogy, Mike is the Group Project Administrator for the Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) Quackenbush surname project - with a focus in Y-DNA analysis; which goes in tandem with the Quackenbush One-Name-Study he founded in 2015.

- Program Title: Rejuvenate and Stimulate: Taking a look at your current-state family history research Experience Level: All Geographic Specialization: Canada Program Outline: When was the last time you went back over the research you have already done? Does your pedigree need a facelift? We will look at the why's and how's of refreshing your family history research. Syllabus will be provided. Program Title: Recognize those places: Connecting places to the people in our research Experience Level: All Geographic Specialization: Canada Program Outline: How well do you know the places where your ancestors lived? How can you learn more? Why do you want to know? We will look at ways to help develop a better understanding of the places the people lived, and why this can be a key to breaking down brick walls. Syllabus will be provided. Program Title: Getting Started Researching British Home Children Experience Level: Beginner Geographic Specialization: Canada, England, Scotland Program Outline: For seventy years (1869-1939) over 100, 000 destitute children were sent from British streets and orphanages to Canada to become domestic help and farm hands. With over fifty sending agencies, these children were primarily placed in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Qu bec, Ontario, Manitoba, among other locations. One in ten Canadian s are now descendants of Home Children. This program is an unknown piece of relatively recent history in Canada. We will learn about the program itself, and how to go about locating records and identifying if an ancestor was British Home Child sent to Canada. Syllabus will be provided. Program Title: Essentials of English Evidence Experience Level: Beginner Geographic Specialization: England Program Outline: With history dating back over a thousand years, England has one of the richest sources of records in the world. A question often asked is, "Where do I begin?" We will explore the most popular record collections in England and Wales to help guide you down the path to continuous success in discovering the lives of your ancestors. Syllabus will be provided.
