Chaya Sara Herman is a genealogist, historical consultant and archival research professional with extensive experience working at the intersection of public history, community engagement, and cultural heritage stewardship. She currently takes private clients and additionally works at the Museum of Jewish Heritage’s Kalikow JewishGen Center. At the museum she guides visitors and researchers of all backgrounds, interprets archival collections, and collaborates with JewishGen staff to make historical records more discoverable to the public.

Chaya Sara specializes in navigating complex archival environments particularly fragmented or multi-jurisdictional record sets in Russian, Lithuanian, Polish, Ukrainian, Yiddish and Hebrew and has led research projects involving multiple municipal, state, federal, and international archives. With fluency in historical documents in multiple languages, she advocates for transparent description, responsible digitization, and thoughtful access to sensitive records. Her research has been published internationally.

Chaya Sara serves on the Executive Council of the Jewish Genealogical Society of New York.
