efforts of her grandmother who was researching the paternal side of her family. This interest lead to achieving a certificate in Family History and Genealogy from the University of WA in 1999. That program culminated in a project on her 3x great grandfather, the Rev. Thomas Oliver Ellis, MD based on family correspondence and focusing on several aspects of his life: religion, medicine, and the Civil War in California. Connie s career in nursing (as a clinical nurse specialist and geriatric nurse practitioner) kept family history as a parallel interest for many years. Connie did manage to avidly study her family as her work took her to each of the 50 states, most Canadian provinces, and several countries abroad. Connie has visited libraries, archives, and courthouses throughout the US and Canada and driven around the backroads of states and provinces searching for places with links to her ancestors. As a health care professional, Connie helped found a non-profit, which focuses on improving partnerships between health care professionals and those they serve. In that capacity, Connie consulted internationally on diverse topics, but always with an emphasis on improving relationships and working together. Connie has been a plenary speaker, consultant, and trainer working on projects to improve health care. She is now helping genealogists apply sound communication principles to family history. Connie is a member of the British Columbia Genealogical Society, the Association for Professional Genealogists and the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, an international group promoting excellence in communication and supporting healthy behaviour change. Connie s genealogical interests and expertise include genetic genealogy, federal records, land records, probate, cemetery iconography, westward migration, California pioneers, Gold Rush, Southern states, New England colonies, Nova Scotia, daily lives of ancestors, involving children in family history and storytelling. Connie enjoys assisting people to become better acquainted with their ancestry as a way of learning more about themselves and their connection to history.
