I have researched genealogical records for fifteen years, including both my own family records and the records for other families. This research has included onsite research for land records, wills, vital records, pension and military records, as well as many other kinds of information, in a variety of states, including, among others, California, Missouri, Michigan, Wisconsin, upstate New York, and Virginia. I specialize in the Northwest Territory, established in 1787, but I also have extensive online research experience in other parts of the United States and Canada. I have worked as a librarian for the genealogy collection at Troy [MI] Library and as the librarian/genealogist for the Troy Historical Museum. I have facilitated a genealogy study group and taught beginning-intermediate genealogy courses at the library. My genealogical education has included the genealogy certificate program at Boston University, advanced courses at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (including Advanced Research Methods, Practical Genetic Genealogy, and Advanced Land Records) and at Gen-Fed for federal records in Washington D.C. at the National Archives. I have also taken courses in DNA and attended many National Genealogical Society National Conferences. I am particularly interested in land records and wills. Because my own family never spent more than one generation in a state, I am also experienced in tracking families that moved frequently and am interested in migration routes. I grew up in California, graduated from Willamette University in Oregon, and have a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan. I currently live in of Michigan.

Service Description:
I specialize in genealogical research within the United States, particularly in the Midwest, from 1700 to the present time. I also do some research in Canada, particularly in Ontario. I provide clients with a complete report for the question(s) asked, including all citations and information found in each cited source. I use DNA evidence when available and appropriate, but I do not trace heirs or search for biological parents. If desired, I will try to provide a historical context for the lives of the researched ancestors.
