Judy Riffel has more than 35 years of experience in genealogy. She is author of numerous books and articles on Louisiana genealogical records. An officer in Le Comite des Archives de la Louisiane, Inc. (, she has edited their quarterly journal, Le Raconteur since 1984. Awards she has received include the Foundation for Historical Louisiana Preservation Award (2007), the Vicksburg Genealogical Society's Woodland G. Shockley Award for Promotion of Genealogy (2007), and The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Bronze Good Citizenship Medal (2016). She has worked on a number of genealogy television shows conducting both behind-the-scenes research and appearing on camera and she was co-host of the Baton Rouge television show Roots of Faith: Ancestry appearing on Catholic Life Television in the Baton Rouge area and online from 2014 to 2017. Since 2015, she has been Lead Genealogist for the Georgetown Memory project, tracing the lives and descendants of some 272 enslaved persons sold by the Jesuits in Maryland and sent to Louisiana plantations in 1838.
