Biography:
Marie Varrelman Melchiori, is now retired but began researching professionally in 1979, specializing in Union and Confederate records at the National Archives, Washington, DC. Assistant director for NIGR from 1987 to 2002, she lectured on military records at NGS and FGS conferences, Samford University's IGHR, NIGR, local societies and the National Archives. Joining APG in 1983, she served as vice president, 1991-93, and trustee from 1994-1999. Marie received APG's Smallwood Award of Merit, 1999. She served as a BCG trustee 2000-2006. She was awarded Certified Genealogist Emeritus in 2015.
