Elissa, a western Pennsylvania researcher for over 25 years, is a co-Director of the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP) ( She is the Professional Genealogy Course Coordinator at the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) now in Athens, GA. She is Past-president for the Board for Certification of Genealogists. She was the instructor for the "Genealogy Profession" module in Boston University's Genealogical Research Certificate program from 2008-2016. She has been an instructor at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy and a regional and national speaker on such topics as Pennsylvania records, methodology, professional development, and society management. She was honored in May 2010 with the NGS President's Citation in recognition of outstanding, continuing, or unusual contributions to the field of genealogy. She was a Director for the Association of Professional Genealogists for six years; co-edited a cemetery book series and appeared on the PBS-TV show ANCESTORS2 cemetery episode and in the Travel Channel's Dead Files "The Instigator" episode. She is a past-President of two local Pittsburgh area societies and a contributing author to many publications including the APG Quarterly. Along with local genealogical societies, memberships include the National Genealogical Society and New England Historic Genealogical Society. She is a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), First Families of Ohio; First Families of Medina County, Ohio; Pioneer Families of Mahoning County, Ohio; First Families of Western Pennsylvania; and Society of Civil War Families of Ohio. She is a lifetime member of the Ohio Genealogical Society; the Medina County Chapter, OGS; and the Baltzer Meyer Historical Society (Greensburg, PA) which was named after her ancestor.
