Deborah Harvey has been involved in genealogy research for over 30 years. She began her genealogy research while living in Northern Virginia and conducting research in the National Archives and the Fairfax County Library s Virginia Reading Room. In 1987, Ms. Harvey relocated to her family s home since the 1700s in Nelson County, Virginia and began in-depth research into her family s roots utilizing local county(ies) court records and state-wide historical and genealogical resources including Jones Memorial Library, University of Virginia Special Collections Library, Virginia Historical Society collections, the Library of Virginia, and many others. Ms. Harvey has documented most of the lines of her family tree back to the early 1800s and beyond. Additionally, she has traced many of the consanguineal lines across the United States. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the War of 1812, The Huguenot Society, and The Jamestowne Society as a result of her work in documenting her family s history and successfully completing the application papers for each society. An engineer and defense intelligence analyst by training and career paths, Ms. Harvey applies the same logical analytical approaches used throughout her career to successfully address genealogical challenges and brickwalls. Ms. Harvey s educational training in genealogy has included completion of the Boston University Certificate in Genealogical Research, the National Genealogical Society s Home Study Course, the ProGen Study Group, and Mastering Genealogical Proof Study Group. She has attended numerous genealogical conferences and done extensive training in traditional genealogy, genetic genealogy, and forensic genealogy completing courses at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh, Institute for Genealogical and Historical Research, and the Genealogical Institute on Federal Records. She currently serves as a Governor-at-Large and webmaster with the Virginia Genealogical Society. She also is the Editor for The Virginia Genealogical Society Newsletter and serves on the APG's Publication Advisory Committee. Locally, she serves as the President of the Nelson County Historical Society and chairs the committee for the 50th Commemoration of Hurricane Camille in Nelson County. She has consulted with the television program Who Do You Think You Are? In 2014 the Dallas Genealogical Society's awarded her article "Where the Angus Roam" first place in their writing competition.

Service Description:
Deborah Harvey established Back To Your Roots, LLC in Lovingston, Virginia to provide genealogical research services to individuals needing assistance in researching and documenting their family histories, genetic genealogy, and forensic genealogy. Services range from providing specific information on a particular family or individual through courthouse or special collection library look-ups to documenting a family's complete lineage over several generations in the form of a documented and fully-sourced family history or lineage society application. She also offers classes ranging from introductory sessions on beginning family research to more in-depth classes on land records, chancery records, and tax records. While her primary focus is the Piedmont area of Virginia, research services and capabilities include other regions of Virginia and across the United States with extensive experience with records of genealogical significance in North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Missouri.
