Deborah Harvey has been involved in genealogy research for over 30 years. She began her genealogy research while living in Northern Virginia and conducting research in the National Archives and the Fairfax County Library s Virginia Reading Room. In 1987, Ms. Harvey relocated to her family s home since the 1700s in Nelson County, Virginia and began in-depth research into her family s roots utilizing local county(ies) court records and state-wide historical and genealogical resources including Jones Memorial Library, University of Virginia Special Collections Library, Virginia Historical Society collections, the Library of Virginia, and many others. Ms. Harvey has documented most of the lines of her family tree back to the early 1800s and beyond. Additionally, she has traced many of the consanguineal lines across the United States. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the War of 1812, The Huguenot Society, and The Jamestowne Society as a result of her work in documenting her family s history and successfully completing the application papers for each society. An engineer and defense intelligence analyst by training and career paths, Ms. Harvey applies the same logical analytical approaches used throughout her career to successfully address genealogical challenges and brickwalls. Ms. Harvey s educational training in genealogy has included completion of the Boston University Certificate in Genealogical Research, the National Genealogical Society s Home Study Course, the ProGen Study Group, and Mastering Genealogical Proof Study Group.. She has attended genealogical conferences and events including Samford University s Institute for Genealogical and Historical Research (completing the Virginia s Land and Military Conflicts and their Effect on Migration course), Fairfax County Genealogical Society Conferences, the National Genealogical Society Conference, and Virginia Genealogical Society events. She has also consulted with the television program "Who Do You Think You Are?" She was awarded first place in the 2014 Dallas Genealogical Society's Writing Conference. She currently serves as the Editor of the Virginia Genealogical Society newsletter.
