Matthew McCormack
New Line Genealogy, L.L.C.
Biography:
Matt is currently Vice President of Northeast Michigan Genealogical Society and is a delegate for his local branch of the Michigan Genealogical Council. He is serving on the APG logo compliance committee. Matt is a member of the Collections Committee at the Besser Museum in Alpena, Michigan and the Historic District Study Committee for the city of Alpena, Michigan. Within his community and greater Michigan, Matt has served on the Planning Commission for the city of Dexter, Michigan and helped create a heritage (historic) overlay district to offer a layer of protection for many of the city s historic structures. Matt has also served on the Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee for the city of Dexter. Matt s Bachelor s degree is from Eastern Michigan University, with a major in history and a minor in historic preservation. Since continuing education is essential to the field of genealogy, Matt participates in numerous local, regional, and national programs. He has life memberships and professional affiliations with genealogical councils and societies too numerous to list, focusing primarily on the Midwest and Northeast. In the fall of 2015, Matt hosted his first annual genealogy retreat for professional genealogists, GenStock. Now in the third year, GenStock is an alternative to the more traditional genealogy conference focused on research, rules and protocol. Professional genealogists from across the nation meet annually at this alternative conference to collaborate, make connections and share their wisdom in a more relaxed, less academic setting. Held at Matt s 80-acre farm in Northern Michigan, the retreat focuses on the unique business concerns of professional genealogists and restores a little peace in the lives of its participants with its beautiful nature-filled setting.
