I have been doing genealogical research for 30 years. I have access to the State Historical Society of Iowa Library in Iowa City, which has the state's largest collection of Iowa newspaper records, as well as all Iowa state and federal census records and most if not all county histories for Iowa. It also includes numerous indexes to vital records, tombstone inscriptions and other records from around the state. Iowa City is also home to the University of Iowa and a Family History Library branch. If you can't locate a researcher in the locality of your Iowa ancestor, this is probably the best place for research. I'm a member of the NGS, several state and local societies, and have attended genealogical institutes in Birmingham, AL and Salt Lake City, UT.
