Biography:
Margaret has been doing family research since 1991. She is a Georgia native with maternal roots going back to colonial South Carolina. Between 2005 and 2012 she did research for clients with ancestors from South Carolina and coastal Georgia. Margaret now focuses all of her research on pre-1868 Orangeburgh District, South Carolina, an area with extensive record losses during the Civil War. She uses land and census records and DNA studies to map and reconstruct the history, neighborhoods, and families of a large portion of Orangeburgh District. She has written and published four books on this area and has several more in progress. Samples of her land mapping work can be viewed at her website, OrangeburghPlats.com. Margaret belongs to numerous local, regional, and national genealogical and historical organizations. She is a co-administrator of the Orangeburgh District DNA Project with her focus being autosomal DNA testing. While Margaret no longer accepts client assignments she is willing to discuss Orangeburgh District ancestry and research with anyone who contacts her.
