Patricia Phelan specializes in researching families in Ireland and the U.S., especially New York City (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and Bronx). She also researches families in Canada and the U.K. She has located the ancestral place of origin in Ireland for many clients with Irish heritage, and has connected families in Ireland and the U.K., whose ancestors went to America, with lost family in the U.S. She has an in-depth knowledge of Ireland and travels there each year. She is a member of the Assn. of Professional Genealogists, the Irish Family History Forum, Irish Family History Society, Irish Genealogical Research Society, NY Irish History Roundtable, Irish Cultural Society, NY Genealogical and Biographical Society, and Intl. Society of Family History Writers and Editors (ISFHWE). She was editor of the Newsletter of the Irish Family History Forum from 2011-2016, during which time it was honored five times by the National Genealogical Society in its annual newsletter competition (winner in 2013; second place in 2014,2015,2016, 2017). She was the winner of the ISFHWE Excellence-in-Writing newsletter competition in 2014, placed third in 2016, and came in second in 2017.
