APG Special Interest Groups (SIGs) exist to support professional development and deepening of networks among APG members in a specific area of knowledge, learning, or technology. They offer a forum for members with similar interests and challenges to interact with each other and develop a resource network, to share their experience and knowledge with like-minded professionals, and to further promote their area of interest within the larger genealogical community or to the public.
Membership in APG’s Special Interest Groups is only open to current members of APG.
This Special Interest Group provides support to members who have an interest in advocacy issues impacting equitable access to and preservation of historical records.
The purpose of the APG Advocacy Special Interest Group is to focus discussion and activities around the topic of advocacy:
- Direct conversations and engage in activities that prioritize the preservation of historical records while advocating for their equitable accessibility.
- Engage and inspire its members to champion the same goals in their local markets.
- Educational opportunities may be available as the SIG grows
The Advocacy SIG convenes 2-4 times annually and conducts its business in English. To accommodate participation from members across different time zones, the time schedule will vary.
The majority of its business will be conducted via an email list, where the members can share issues of concern and advice for how to combat these issues. There are no membership dues.
