Re: [APG Public List] weird occupationOn the subject of occupations, the street one of my (then teenaged) ancestors is listed on in the UK 1841 London census has 3/4's of the neighbours listing their occupation as "prostitutes." Ditto for neighbouring pages. Later in life he was nicknamed "the Wanderer." No wonder...

Alvie, I have to add Blenko Glass. It's the company I think of most when I think of glass manufacturers in West Virginia.

Hi Roland
Having worked in the glass bottle manufacturing industry for 25 years I know there were many glass companies in West Virginia.
A stripper could be anything in the glass plant also. We had men and women who stripped waste off moulds.
I was a glass bottle blower machine operator which made soda, beer, and liquor bottles before I moved on up to foreman who diagnosed operator problems.
You might find this family worked for either Owens Glass or Owens-Illinois Glass.
