Dee,

The difference in wanting to take a college or university style course or set of courses
versus a "continuing education" style of courses should be in structure.  College-based
genealogical courses should be building upon each other to give the students a firm
foundation in research, methology, and source materials in whatever areas are being presented
to students with set assignments and rubrics (spelled out ways of things to do in order to
meet assignment requirements.)  This structure is necessary for students to succeed in
understanding and retaining what is taught.  Problem solving is essential so that students
remember back to familiar cases with similar problems when faced with client
research problems in the real world.

Continuing education courses are geered towards professionals with advanced research
skills who will quickly catch on to the concepts being presented.  There should be no
need to lay educational groundwork to make sure that those attending understand.

The APG list members are more likely looking for the continuing education style of
courses versus the college degree because of where they are with their careers.

When I signed up for the Boston U online course, I was #10 of the 15 slots available.

They're expecting the limit to be filled by Weds.

best regards,

Dee
