Good morning friends,
I have been using the public access to order SS-5 online and so far they are
coming in a timely fashion. The last two I ordered at the same time; one
came in two weeks and the other came in four weeks.

Subject: [APG] ordering SS-5 online
There has been discussion on the BCG list about online ordering of Social
Security SS-5 forms of deceased persons.
The link is
http://www.ssa.gov/foia/html/foia_guide.htm#FOIARequests
Look about 1/2 way down the page for the red and blue button that says "Now
Online" with the header
"MAKE YOUR REQUEST ONLINE
Social Security Electronic Freedom of Information(eFOIA)"
Click one of two of the links:
Social Security Number Application (Form SS-5) of a deceased person. You can
use online __Form SSA-711__. or
A computer extract of the Social Security number application. You can use
online __Form SSA-71__.
The first page has fields for info about the deceased person and your
ordering info - name, address, telephone, etc. After hitting the submit
button, the next page provides you with an order summary and opportunity to
correct errors. Clicking submit again will take you to the payment page
where you can pay by MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, and
Diner's Club.
It was reported by one BCG list member that the online requests might be
filled in less time than those requests filed by mail.
I tried the order pages several times and there was some instability,
timed-out messages, etc. Leaving critical fields blank resulted in random
error messages. But the system appeared to accept orders.
Best regards,
Dee
