[APG Public List] Ellis Island

Will be in NYC next week, with one free day on my own and want to go to 
Ellis Island.  Staying mid town Manhattan, and not am not familiar with the 
subway lines, but directions seem clear from an interactive transit map that 
Google has online.  Any tips as to what I should expect?  Should I expect 
crowds of tourists this time of year?
