Biography:
Robert J. Friedman, formerly Director of the Genealogy Institute at the Center for Jewish History, is President of Steps to the Past Genealogical Research Services LLC. He conducts research projects for individual clients, and is also an experienced speaker and workshop leader.

Mr. Friedman's extensive family history investigations have focused on Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, and the U.S. His broad experience includes on-site research at numerous archives, libraries, and cemeteries, as well as expertise in "mining" data from online sources.

Active in the Hungarian and Romanian Special Interest Groups, Mr. Friedman has also participated in the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies Cemetery Project and the JewishGen Yizkor Book Project, served on the Executive Council of the Jewish Genealogical Society of New York, and volunteered at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.

Mr. Friedman is a graduate of the Bronx H.S. of Science, Columbia and Hunter Colleges, and Long Island University, where he earned a Master's degree in Library and Information Science with a certificate in Archives and Records Management.
